12:53 Tom1 hi, Choldrim: long time no see ;)

14:30 brainy hi hualet
14:31 hualet hey brainy
14:32 brainy hualet: the other day I used gparted to change the sizes of 2 partition, I made one bigger and one smaller
14:32 brainy After the operation the big partition became unreadable and all the data was lost :(
14:32 brainy So it is very risky to resize partitions.
14:32 hualet brainy: sorry to hear that
14:33 brainy hualet: haha thanks no problem, just wanted to share a story
14:33 hualet brainy: yeah, I never have the gut to do that
14:33 brainy yeah xD
14:33 hualet brainy: have you tried to restore the data?
14:34 brainy hualet: No, but luckily it wasn't very important data, just a lot of multimedia files but not so important
14:34 brainy hualet: Do you think some partition programs are better than others?
14:36 hualet brainy: nope, I am very careful person, so I don't always do dangerous stuffs XD
14:36 hualet especially partioning disks
14:37 hualet :D
14:37 brainy hualet: I agree with you :-)
14:38 felixonmars always backup before you do that :P
14:38 brainy Right felixonmars
14:39 hualet hmmm...that sounds a big time consumption :P
14:40 felixonmars hualet: always do incremental backup then, :P
14:41 felixonmars i keep a full disk backup of my current system partition, and run rsync every other day.
14:41 brainy felixonmars: I remember you mentioning this. Which program do you use for the full backup?
14:42 felixonmars rsync :)
14:42 hualet you must have suffered that a lot, right ?
14:42 brainy felixonmars: ah ok
14:42 felixonmars hualet: nah, i just want to be safe...
14:42 felixonmars you know, you need something like a backup to feel safe if you are on Arch :P
14:43 brainy haha
14:43 felixonmars i can always boot to my very same (working) system from my backup in 2min
14:43 hualet haha
14:44 hualet felixonmars: why do you like Arch ?
14:44 felixonmars hualet: it's simple in packaging
14:45 felixonmars i don't want any unmanaged files in /usr, and it's easier to achieve this on Arch
14:46 hualet felixonmars: really ? a friend of mine showed me packaging on Gentoo once, he insists that Gentoo is the most packaging friendly distro ;)
14:46 felixonmars hualet: well, yes if you care more :3
14:46 hualet felixonmars: I don't know much about packaging, sadly haha
14:47 felixonmars i mean, gentoo is great if you want to keep everything in control, and that has to involve some complexity
14:48 hualet right
14:49 felixonmars and for arch, some degree of freedom was sacrificed to make things even simpler :P
14:49 hualet felixonmars: there's one thing I want to ask, do you know much about taking care of StarupNotify ?
14:50 hualet felixonmars: maybe you can share your experience to us someday
14:51 felixonmars sure :P
14:51 felixonmars i shared some of this to Aron when i was at beijing
14:51 hualet who is Aron ?
14:52 felixonmars hualet: i know StartupNotify, but not much. what's wrong?
14:52 felixonmars hualet: Aron Xu, debian developer
14:53 hualet felixonmars: Xu liang, formor Deepin employee, right?
14:53 felixonmars yes
14:54 hualet felixonmars: our DE doesn't take care of StartupNotify very well, so I want some advices
14:55 felixonmars i see. i don't think the ecosystem of StartupNotify works much as intended, though
14:55 felixonmars since i don't really remember it work nicely in KDE and/or GNOME, either
14:56 hualet at lease KDE bounce the app icons while the application is starting
14:56 felixonmars yeah, and i always see it bouncing forever for certain applications
14:56 hualet :D
14:56 felixonmars (reproducible for quite some applications)
14:57 hualet that's embarassing :D
14:58 hualet what I want is showing the waiting cursor while some program is starting
14:58 felixonmars i see
14:58 felixonmars then i can feel like KDE in Deepin, great :P
14:58 hualet but I don't even know who is responsible for that
15:00 felixonmars iirc it's a freedesktop spec
15:00 hualet what ?
15:01 felixonmars i mean something like this http://standards.freedesktop.org/startup-notification-spec/startup-notification-latest.txt
15:01 felixonmars really old :/
15:03 hualet yeah, I think I read it before
15:04 felixonmars and i hardly know more than that :P
15:05 hualet felixonmars: thanks, though :D
15:05 brainy I hate the KDE bounce xD
15:05 brainy *boing boing*
15:05 felixonmars me too :P
15:09 hualet felixonmars brainy, gotta go, good night :D
