04:21 sbw1 joined #deepin
04:37 hualet_deepin hi steev
04:38 hualet_deepin let me see, there are some new friends I haven't say hi to
04:38 hualet_deepin hi outsourced  PerlinNoise :P
04:39 steev hualet_deepin: :) i noticed you said something this morning (my time it was 8am); been rather busy working on a few things for arm64 here
04:40 hualet_deepin you mean the funny story :)
04:40 hualet_deepin steev: what's that things ?
04:41 steev hualet_deepin: oh, i'm a kali linux developer, and i'm going through all our various packages that don't build and fixing them up, then testing via sbuild; gives me practice for pulling in the deepin desktop :D
04:41 hualet_deepin I'm having trouble with something to: network driver, network speed, network VPN :P
04:41 steev i blame the firewall? :P
04:42 hualet_deepin I blame the whole community :P it's a joke
04:42 steev i'm also a gentoo linux developer, and i'm fixing firefox 45.0.1 on gentoo to build on arm64
04:42 hualet_deepin steev: great, so there will be DDE on kali linux right ?
04:43 steev hualet_deepin: that's the goal
04:43 hualet_deepin cool man
04:43 steev and if i can get it packaged up properly (as in, get the dependencies needed) then the watch files can take over and our automation can kick in
04:44 hualet_deepin steev: anything we can help ?
04:44 steev hualet_deepin: i don't think so, just make sure the dependencies are properly documented, which most of them seem to be; the biggest thing on our (Kali) side is we don't have much go packaged
04:46 hualet_deepin oh, I thinks we packaged many golang packages ourselves
04:46 hualet_deepin anyway, please contact me if you need any help that we can provide :D
04:47 hualet_deepin and thanks for the try to make DDE available to Kali
04:47 steev hualet_deepin: yep, i noticed that; debian has an awesome dh-make-go package for... uh, packaging go dependencies
04:47 hualet_deepin yeah
04:47 steev dh-make-golang
04:47 steev i gotta convince them to import it into kali
04:47 steev which is really just me emailing and saying add it
04:48 hualet_deepin why ? I thought Kali is Debian based ?
04:48 hualet_deepin am I wrong ?
04:48 steev it is, but we build our own packages, so we have to import them, we don't just rely on the debian mirrors
04:48 steev we have x86/amd64/arm/arm64 builders
04:49 steev most of it is fairly automated
04:49 hualet_deepin you maintain the most of the packages yourself ?
04:49 hualet_deepin I mean not from the debain mirrors ?
04:51 steev we do; but since we rely on debian so much, we also mirror them; it's a win-win
04:51 steev some things we patch, some things we don't, but we can't guarantee that they don't make an incompatible change
04:54 hualet_deepin I think we're brothers :P you based on jessie or sid ?
04:56 steev sid+ (we import constantly)
04:56 steev we're "rolling" release
04:56 steev so updates come in all the time
04:58 hualet_deepin but that breaks things
04:58 hualet_deepin I've been worried about this since our last update accident
04:59 hualet_deepin but I still didn't figure out a better way to prevent those accidents from happening
04:59 steev well, we have multiple levels of "release"
05:00 steev kali-dev (us kali devs run it), kali-bleeding-edge (moves here after we are like, eh, okay) - some users run this, and finally kali-rolling
05:00 steev so we catch breaks pretty fast
05:01 hualet_deepin OK
05:02 steev and of course, with all the builds being mostly automated (we get email notifications of any type of failures); we find things fairly quickly
05:02 hualet_deepin we do pretty much the same thing here, debian -> inner testing -> community testing -> rolling release
05:02 steev before this weekend, i always installed build packages manually, and only found sbuild and i run that locally now too
05:03 steev we also have jenkins set up
05:03 steev so every commit gets tested
05:04 hualet_deepin the core problems here is that Debian packages sometime break the compatibility
05:05 hualet_deepin both on features and builds
05:07 hualet_deepin you rely on user feedback to fix those breaks ? I mean feature breaks mostly
05:11 steev sometimes
05:11 steev we can't test *every* feature and *every* setup; so we test the most common (the ones we use)

06:10 steev hualet_deepin: actually i noticed a bug here (maybe i just need to update though); if i run apt update, it just sorta sits there "working"; versus apt-get update which actually seems to connect just fine?
06:11 steev well, for certain definitions of fine - it's slow because i'm not pointing to a closer mirror
06:28 hualet_deepin steev: you mean it's slow there ?
06:29 steev hualet_deepin: ah, no, maybe i just had a weird thing
06:29 steev it worked this time when i ran it /o\
06:29 hualet_deepin hehe

06:47 steev https://bpaste.net/show/b11fdfb0dedb - that's why i prefer apt actually; if there are updates it will say X updates available, run apt something --list-upgradable

09:11 qih On Deepin 15.1.1/AMD64 ... shouldn't a DVD inserted into the drive autoplay?
09:37 hualet_deepin joined #deepin
09:56 dance707 hi qih
09:57 qih dance707: Hi.
09:59 dance707 In the control panel the default settings Auto Play should be turned on and under DVD video Deepin movie should be checked
09:59 dance707 for Default applications
10:00 dance707 then after inserting dvd a file manager pops up and have to click Deepin Movie in right hand corner
10:02 qih dance707: Thanks, looking...
10:06 qih Autoplay is on, DVD is set to Movie Player, disc out/in, no go 8-(
10:06 qih And this is a functioning DVD drive that I have burned data to in the past few weeks.
10:07 dance707 do you get the pop up file manager ?
10:07 qih No, I do not.
10:12 dance707 I noticed on of my movies did not play from dvd drive either I tied another one and it played good .
10:12 qih OK, I'll try that.
10:15 qih dance707: That worked! Thank you.
10:16 dance707 qih your welcome
10:17 dance707 qih i will check out latter tonight why my other one would not play. They are all saved to hard drive so I dont often try from the dvd bay
10:18 hualet_deepin joined #deepin
10:19 qih dance707: K, clarification, it tries to play but fails.
10:22 dance707 qih yes that is what I mean one tries to play but fails do not know if its missing a media codecs or what
10:22 dance707 qih but the other one I tried plays good
10:25 qih OK, odd.
10:27 qih dance707: I just checked using apt-get, ffmpeg is not installed, and in my experience that is a key base package for DVDs.
10:32 dance707 qih there may be some ffmpeg but those are mostly for for audio CD's. DVD are usually libdvdc something. But I will need time to check it out and want to try my saved copy on hard drive first to isolate the problem.
10:40 qih OK, just reading at Debian on libddvcss2 etc
10:50 qih dance707: Progress, I ended up executing the cmd "sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2", which then defaults to ... install libdvd-pkg, a meta-package.
10:51 qih During the install of that, the LibDVDCSS2 install process pops up, finalises, but now it seems that the Deepin Movie player cannot actually handle the .VOB files, they are being identified as unknown files.
10:53 dance707 qih : there are libdvdc packages already installed in Deepin I just checked my saved copy on hard drive and it plays okay In Deepin Movie . So the problem maybe being able to read the newer movies from DVD bay
10:55 qih OK, I'll do some more digging
10:57 dance707 qih :Okay I will check back with you latter after some rest and had time to determine the problem
10:59 qih OK, but in the meantime, I installed VLC, and it works with both movies, so the default packages for Deepin Movie player are the likely issue.
11:00 qih later
11:00 dance707 qih ok

22:16 dance707 hi qih
22:29 qih dance707: Hi, what did you find?
22:30 dance707 qih : about the same thing you did I installed libdvd-pkg and smplayer and they played okay
22:33 qih OK, I may be having permission/mount errors with multimedia on this DVD drive, data is fine, Read or Write
22:37 dance707 qih : still the same problem with Deepin Movie says invalid file with .VOB extension
22:38 qih What default groups should a $user be in?
22:38 qih dance707: You are having that fault also?
22:40 dance707 qih smplayer lighter than vlc but you can use Deepin User Feedback in applications to report your findings with Deepin Movie
22:40 qih dance707: OK, will do on both counts.

22:57 qih dance7071: Haha, that looks like fun!
22:58 qih The automount of CD/DVD is broken, but it automounts on some disks, so I am using "mount -t iso9660 /dev/sro /target/dir <= which works fine
22:59 qih I ca play more of the files than before but both Deepin Movie & VLC are producing errors with .VOB files. Will look further, I'd rather solve this than just intall another player, if that can be helped.
22:59 qih I can*
23:00 dance7071 qih mine are working okay on smplayer I would prefer to use Deepin Movie seems to only play the older DVD's I have

23:29 qih dance707: OK, well one of the ones I want to play was from 2003.
23:31 dance707 qih ahh okay vob extension?
23:31 qih Yes
23:31 qih How funny is that? You try to play legitimate videos and they don't work?
23:31 qih You fileshare, and no worries ...
23:33 dance707 qih we will have to report these findings in Deepin User Feedback so they can improve Deepin Movie
23:51 qih Yes we will.
