13:07 wumbo morning
13:07 wumbo can anyone assist with how i can turn off touchpad tapping with the Deepin OS
13:07 vodkode joined #deepin
13:09 wumbo ?
13:13 vodkode hey guys
13:13 vodkode hows it going wumbo?
13:14 wumbo great, just trying to figure out how to disable touchpad tapping in Deepin OS
13:14 wumbo trying me mad when typing and there is no graphical option to do so
13:14 vodkode I wish I could help, I really don't know
13:14 wumbo driving me*
13:14 vodkode I don't run deepin, just hang out here because I became friendly with some people when I used it
13:14 vodkode yeah
13:15 vodkode I had a similar problem on my android tablet
13:15 vodkode are you new to linux or just to deepin?
13:20 wumbo just to deepin
13:20 vodkode ah okay
13:20 wumbo form. a Ubuntu
13:21 wumbo easy to find info with Ubuntu
13:21 wumbo but this OS seems polished and i like its GUI
13:21 vodkode well, most distros it's fairly straight forward as long as they're based off deb or arch
13:21 wumbo so far most dont match up
13:21 vodkode yeah it has a slick GUI, its actually a commercial company behind it
13:21 wumbo some are saying use xinput list
13:21 wumbo not a deepin command
13:22 wumbo some say use touch-indicator - dont exist
13:22 vodkode ElementaryOS is another slick GUI - but many dislike the fact there is no no minimize button on windows and no desktop icons requiring a third party app to do that
13:22 wumbo so its weird
13:23 vodkode I never liked ubuntu, canonical does shit their own way and its not always pretty
13:34 brainy joined #deepin
13:34 brainy hi arunpyas-
13:34 vodkode hey brainy
13:34 vodkode heya arunpyas
13:34 vodkode long time no chat
13:34 vodkode how are you guys?
13:34 brainy hi vodkode man :)
13:35 vodkode hows it going?
13:35 brainy Not too bad thx, how is you?
13:35 vodkode working on a new business and studying the geek I am :D
13:35 brainy Deepin 15.7 seems to have a lot of issues :( I havent tried it yet though
13:35 brainy nice!
13:36 brainy Studying at the university?
13:36 vodkode I'm taking the time to study blender and latex
13:36 vodkode no
13:36 vodkode no no no never
13:36 brainy ahhh ok!
13:36 brainy LOL
13:36 brainy Blender wow man, that deserves a lot of respect
13:36 vodkode I've always studied on my own, if I went to a university here the comp-sci would say 'latex? this is not sex ed!' ands 'Linux? what is that? a brand of cookie?'
13:36 brainy Is it as complicated as I think it is? xD
13:37 brainy vodkode, lmao
13:37 vodkode well, it is I guess, but I did 3D for a long time
13:37 wumbo brainy, are you familiar with how to disable the tapping of a touchpad in Deepin?
13:37 vodkode I worked mostly in Lightwave and some in Softimage 3D and XSI
13:37 vodkode blender is actually pretty simple compared to XSI - it just contains more stuff
13:37 brainy wow wow 3D is such a great field
13:37 vodkode its fun
13:38 vodkode what have you been up to?
13:38 brainy wumbo, hmmm is possible maybe in the xorg.conf files?!
13:38 wumbo where is it located in Deepin?
13:38 brainy vodkode, I am trying to improve my overall Linux skills, watching some nice tutorials on youtube and learning
13:38 luisoliv joined #deepin
13:38 vodkode cool, are you running deepin?
13:38 luisoliv Aⅼlɑh ⅰs ԁⲟіᥒg
13:39 vodkode for a desktop distro I was running Linux Mint for a long time, I now ditched it for MXLinux
13:39 brainy I'm on Ubuntu right now vodkode bro
13:39 vodkode my laptop runs bodhi, my audio/video workstation runs ubuntu studio and this system runs mxlinux
13:40 vodkode I like deepin but I have to agree, latest one has too many bugs
13:40 brainy wumbo, you could try the /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/ directory
13:40 brainy I hope it is there wumbo
13:40 vodkode and also minor things which seem nonsense and annoy me - like the calculator not having advanced modes, etc
13:40 brainy yep vodkode thats a shame
13:40 brainy the distros you mentioned are all based on Ubuntu as well, right?
13:41 vodkode yes
13:41 brainy Nice
13:41 vodkode well, no, I think mxlinux is based on debian
13:41 vodkode but so is ubuntu so
13:41 brainy Right
13:41 brainy bodhi is lightweight I think
13:41 vodkode its a very very fast and very modern distro, I really like it, a lot of apps that were dead or required linking/etc on mint worked out of the box
13:42 vodkode so far I haven't had one app issue
13:42 brainy perfect, Thats how it should be :D
13:42 vodkode hotshots for example - best screenshot app I've ever found, worked no problem
13:42 vodkode mint has this whole ppa system where old ppas are always dead and so on it can be SOOO frustrating
13:43 vodkode brainy I am so sorry but I always forget where you are from because whenever I chat to you I chat with Arunpyas and I know he is from Nepal
13:43 vodkode are you from there as well?
13:45 brainy vodkode, lols no problem, I am from Berlin, Germany
13:45 vodkode oh thats right!
13:45 vodkode wie gehts es dir!
13:45 vodkode leder ist mein deustch so schlecht
13:46 vodkode I used to be able to read/write german fluently
13:46 vodkode a long time ago I studied it for 2 years
13:47 brainy haha thats great
13:47 brainy Mir geht es gut, danke.
13:47 vodkode I was engaged to be married to a polish woman and her family were mostly german and she spoke german/polish and english\
13:47 vodkode thats how I began to learn german
13:48 vodkode how is the weather there?
13:48 brainy ahh cool, she was of polish origin but was born in Germany I guess?
13:48 brainy 71° right now
13:48 brainy xD
13:48 vodkode no, her story was complex actually because her mothers family were german and her fathers was polish, but her parents grew up in poland both of them
13:49 vodkode her dad was int he communist government there before the modern era
13:49 vodkode he was run over by a car in the late 90's and they suspect it was a political murder
13:49 vodkode really complicated mess
13:50 brainy wow man
13:50 vodkode and I wound up marrying a half german half cherokee (american indian) woman
13:50 wumbo the file appears to be in /etc/x11/xorg.conf.d
13:51 wumbo but it says i dont have permission to modify
13:51 wumbo how do i modify that file
13:51 vodkode easy way to work on it
13:52 vodkode open a terminal and type "sudo thunar' or 'sudo caja' (whatever file manager you have)
13:52 vodkode then browse to it, open it in whatever text editor
13:52 vodkode that is of course not the CLI way, but it is easier
13:53 wumbo thunar and caja not found '
13:53 vodkode sudo apt-get install thunar
13:53 vodkode what is the ubuntu default file manager? nautilus ?
13:54 brainy I have Caja in Mate
13:55 vodkode I always use thunar for the most part
13:55 brainy The Other manager is called "Files" ?
13:55 brainy Yeah thunar is pretty cool
13:55 vodkode wumbo are you married to the idea of using deepin ?
13:55 brainy xD
13:56 vodkode you might do better with a more stable current given that there are issues we're all experiencing with the current release
13:56 vodkode I would suggest linuxmint - my 74 year old father does fine with it
13:57 wumbo havent had any issues with it other than this tapping
13:57 wumbo i realistically dont do much in it, but web browse honestly
13:57 wumbo but when i start to type and my thumb its the touchpad, it goes crazy
13:57 wumbo i just installed thunar and modified the file, let me see if this did the trick
13:58 vodkode is there anything under 'display' in the config?
13:58 vodkode or input devices
13:58 wumbo this is within the file
13:58 wumbo https://www.irccloud.com/pastebin/rnImvuTx/
13:58 wumbo i just changed tapbutton1 to 0 from 1
13:59 wumbo funny button is misspelled in the file as well
14:00 vodkode okay do this
14:00 vodkode type  ps aux | less
14:00 vodkode find the xinput for the device
14:00 vodkode then kill that PID
14:01 vodkode actually nop
14:01 vodkode sorry
14:01 vodkode dont do that
14:01 vodkode I was confused I thought you meant touch screen
14:01 wumbo no tapping on my touchpad
14:01 wumbo not sure why that isnt a defaulted GUI option\
14:01 vodkode I'm not sure you can disable the touchpad b/c I think thats a hardware issue where it sends the same impulse as if it were a button click?
14:02 vodkode any idea brainy ?
14:02 wumbo dont wanna disable the touchpad
14:02 wumbo i just wanna disable tapping to click
14:02 vodkode woher ist du brainy ?
14:02 wumbo of the touchpad
14:02 vodkode achtung brainy, bitte bitte, das touchpad ist kranken
14:03 vodkode yeah I know but it might be an actual hardware function
14:03 vodkode thats all I'm saying and yeah it sucks
14:03 vodkode it probably counts as a left mouseclick
14:03 wumbo it does
14:03 wumbo which is identical if it were WindowsOS
14:03 wumbo at which, u can disable

21:19 brainy welcome back vodkode :)
21:19 vodkode thanks brainy
21:19 vodkode hows it going?
21:19 vodkode you know, I think I never asked you, what is it that you do? are you a programmer or?
21:24 brainy vodkode, No I'm just a teacher in a public school teaching basic computer stuff
21:25 brainy It's not a highschool, don't what they call them in the US, mostly older people who wanna learn some stuff they never had time to learn
21:26 brainy vodkode, I wonder what it's like to be a Linux system admin though, have you ever worked as such?
21:52 vodkode no
21:53 vodkode sorry for late reply
21:53 vodkode I've worked in IT mostly as part of my primary jobs, although very heavily\
21:53 brainy No problem
21:54 vodkode I was once a clinical researcher in charge of the so-called "EDC" system electronic data capture
21:54 brainy vodkode, Congrats on your marriage btw, forgot to mention
21:54 vodkode oh thank you
21:54 brainy sounds interesting vodkode
21:54 brainy I hope it was?
21:54 vodkode Eh I was a geek in high school and as a teenager and then I discovered marketing and that became my passion
21:54 vodkode and business development
21:55 brainy Haha cool
21:55 vodkode so I helped to build several companies, I sold software and big IT systems (hris), I was a clinical researcher for a while, I also sold white label services, I actually lived in the philippines doing that
21:55 vodkode it was cool but really, if I could redo my life, I would have done something far less stressful
21:55 vodkode and far more stable
21:55 vodkode I grew up looking at the 80's and 90's and couldn't comprehend how things are today
21:56 vodkode so dysfunctional and screwed up and strange
21:58 brainy wow man such a career and such an early age
21:59 brainy impressive
21:59 brainy But as you said I can image lots of stress
21:59 brainy I guess its a job for when you are young
22:01 vodkode yeah
22:02 vodkode I think in retrospect I didn't understand life very much and I did things I either thought made me successful or things I thought made me look successful as opposed to things I enjoyed
22:02 vodkode I would much rather be working with an arc torch, building something out of stone or even tending to cattle than working behind a desk typing all day
22:03 vodkode but I do kind of blend that
22:03 brainy xD
22:03 vodkode I work now doing more marketing
22:03 vodkode I love my gadgets and tools
22:04 brainy I get you, You wanna search for hidden Egyptian artifacts then sit behind the desk xD
22:04 vodkode what about you brainy? what do you enjoy?
22:04 brainy Just kiidding bro
22:04 vodkode I like to create things, in general, I like that kind of productivity, its unfortunate that we live in a time period where the market mandates outsourcing everything
22:05 brainy vodkode, well I like travelling but dont have the money right now, I also like learning languages/cultures
22:05 vodkode over here the economy is a shadow of its former self - no matter what the media says, I dont believe it
22:05 brainy Yeah creating is lots of fun
22:05 vodkode oh yeah? what languages do you speak?
22:05 vodkode besides english and german that is
22:05 brainy If you can combine it with a job - perfect combo
22:07 brainy vodkode, well I speak Persian because my father is from Iran and some Arabic. Next on my list is Russian, Spanish, maybe Chinese? :) It takes constant practicing though
22:07 brainy vodkode, were you free to use a programming language of your choice back then ?
22:08 brainy and whats your fav programming language?
22:09 vodkode oh cool
22:10 vodkode oh C/C++ definitely but I dealt a lot with different oddball stuff
22:10 brainy haha nice
22:10 vodkode l scripting in lightwave, george scripting, shell scripting like crazy, some python, php, I worked on a database that ran on cobol believe it or not
22:10 brainy did you have to deal with some ancient languages from the 60s? xD
22:11 vodkode I had to deal with shitty stuff like that when my interest was OS Posix/C/C++
22:11 brainy WOW
22:11 vodkode yes
22:12 vodkode One time I had to work on a security system which was tied into a mainframe that was the size of two refigerators it was a Vax/VMS system and it tied into everything at this company and they were transitioning but decided to leave the security system on it until they were done
22:12 vodkode it was so crazy and deranged
22:12 vodkode it had pre-recorded messages on old tape decks to call various emergency numbers and tell them 'we have a fire at: address' or 'we have an intruder at: address'
22:13 brainy *LMAO*
22:13 vodkode it was funny because they never actually tested it, so it was the voice of the company rep who sold it to them like 30 years prior or whenever saying 'record this tape and give your message'
22:13 brainy :)))
22:13 vodkode so in theory, if the company (paper company btw) had a fire, it would call the fire department and tell them to record over a tape
22:14 vodkode the reason they used that system btw was actually very logical
22:14 vodkode they didn't print paper there, but they had tons and tons of extremely expensive types of paper used for x-ray imaging and stockpiles of paper used for all sorts of weird industrial needs
22:14 vodkode some of that stuff a single roll might be worth 250,000
22:15 vodkode this wasn't printer paper
22:15 vodkode it was all that kind of stuff, so they were actually afraid of theft, but the main fear was moisture damage and the system monitored the moisture level in about 200 rooms
22:15 vodkode and it turned up/down the air conditioning according to that
22:16 vodkode very very very tightly integrated system, very old system, tons of robotics involved, tons of complexity
22:16 vodkode I did not do any kind of hard/deep coding on the system but I did help with it and spearhead the efforts to upgrade it, it was such a piece of shit
22:16 vodkode 2006 and we're using a computer from 1978
22:16 vodkode whole mainframe had 32mb of ram I think
22:17 vodkode maybe less
22:17 brainy wow man that's so lol and at the same time so interesting
22:17 brainy Do you know if they have upgraded yet?? :)
22:18 vodkode No I think ultimately it was much cheaper to keep the system running and not re-code it, the plan at the time was the move to a more modern (but still woefully obsolete) DEC/Alpha running OpenVMS and to port or emulate what they had
22:19 vodkode the issue was so much code was written in assembler and running from eeprom boards and such, I really was not clear how the system operated, but it never went offline and it had uptime of I think 12 years when I saw it
22:20 vodkode the owner said it had been rebooted 4 times since it was installed when he was a kid and his dad bought it
22:20 vodkode you see that kind of weird stuff over here a lot
22:22 brainy lol wow man
22:22 vodkode I absolutely love Linux these days, its a privilege to get to use such well developed open source software, it really is, it amazes me that the community isn't 1000x bigger than it is
22:22 vodkode but I think a lot of the younger generation take it for granted and could care less to learn computing at all
22:23 brainy Yeah I agree and you have to be interested in technical stuff
22:23 vodkode oh absolutely
22:23 vodkode I am
22:23 brainy Maybe the ease of use takes that interest away from them?
22:23 brainy Who knows..
22:23 vodkode but my interest in technology is broader than just one narrow avenue
22:24 vodkode I really want to buy a CNC machine and a 3d printer this year
22:24 vodkode I am very interested in learning electronics and working with things like arduino
22:25 vodkode 3D is great, it's always a challenge to model
22:25 vodkode I think the younger generation are disinterested in general because they are much more slaves to propaganda than we were
22:25 brainy 3D was always a dream of mine but it always seemd to big for me
22:25 vodkode we dealt with propaganda but not like they do
22:26 brainy vodkode, true
22:26 vodkode they exist in a world where politics is not political, its something all pervasive and invasive and it penetrates their entire lives
22:26 brainy vodkode, do you wanna make 3D movies?
22:26 vodkode they basically go to school and never come home their entire lives are exposed 24/7 to peer review
22:26 vodkode I wanted to when I was younger, not now, no
22:26 brainy Yeah I totally agree
22:27 vodkode but model some cool stuff, I would love to do that and give the models away
22:28 vodkode whats happening here is that this social-media-ization of society is creating a massive fracture in the middle where half the society is mono-cultural, the culture that is socially acceptable and the other half is walking away in a sense
22:29 vodkode the only rational way to analyze it is to put aside bias and opinion and look at society like a colony of ants and analyze them statistically
22:30 vodkode people are fatter, less healthy, have lower grades, lower vocabularies, more mental illness, lower projected life spans
22:30 brainy yeah its Yeah it's a frightening development that's taking place these days
22:30 vodkode its very sad here
22:30 brainy sorry about the two "yeah's" ;)
22:30 vodkode no sorry needed
22:31 vodkode I need to go harass my wife a bit brainy
22:31 vodkode it must be late there
22:31 vodkode have a good evening
